Maine Trip 2026 - Part Six - Houlton, Bangor and Manchester

 Day 21 -- September 28, 2026  - 29209

Today it was a drive up US Highway 1 from Ellsworth to Houlton. This was to be a scenic drive along the coast. Instead it was a rainy wet drive, accented by rain soaked splashes of beautiful fall colors.

Even in the rain the colors were amazing.  Passing through towns like Hancock, Milbridge, Jonesboro Machias, Perry and Whitscock Mill it was a pleasant drive, even in the rain.

We arrived at Ivey's Motor Inn without incident. Dinner was at Ivey’s Bistro at the Inn. Service was good and the food was even better.

Day 22 - September 29, 2026

The original plan today was to drive NE past the town of Van Buren to a point as close to the farthest NE in Maine as possible. Rain and low clouds changed the plan, and we headed directly to Bangor instead. We arrived at the hotel well before check in time, so we went to CVS to pick up a prescription, then to Walmart for a few items. Then with time to kill it was a stop at a Laundromat to do laundry. After checking in, it was off to Olive Garden for dinner.

Day 23 - September 30, 2026

This morning it was off to Manchester, ME the home of Kennebec Cabin Construction otherwise known as Maine Cabin Masters. Maine Cabin Masters has had a show on HGTV/Magnolia Network for years. The crew travels the State rebuilding, remodeling vacation cabins that could be as much as 100 years old. Several years ago they opened a store to sell merchandise made in Maine and designed by company employees. It has space used for a design center and a small restaurant called “The Woodshed.” We browsed the merchandise, took photos of the interior and exterior.

Then it was off to find the Waters Run Inn, a Bed & Breakfast owned by the Morrill family. They renovated it and it is now open for business.

The "Cabin Masters" completely renovated the entire facility

These three "cabins have a total of five rooms. One is completely ADA accessible

Since it is private property, we took photos of the outside and the headed back to our hotel in Bangor.
